EAST WINDSOR VETERANS COMMISSION
MINUTES
for
Thursday, May 4, 2006
OPENING:
Warren Wenz, Chairman, opened this meeting at 7:00 P.M. at the East Windsor Town Hall. There were nine commission members in attendance: Warren Wenz, Ron Hwalek, Ernie Teixeira, Mark Simmons, Dave Malo, John Lichatz, George Butenkoff, Don Brown and Ken Crouch. Dan Burnham, E.W. Cemetery Commission, was also present as a guest.
Absent: William Abbe Sr., Rick Webster, Fred McDermott, James Barton and Linda Roberts
Chairman Warren Wenz led the Commission in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: The recorded minutes of the April 6, 2006, meeting were reviewed by those present.
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to accept the meeting’s minutes as submitted. This was seconded by Ron Hwalek and carried unanimously.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Ron Hwalek distributed an updated copy of the EWVC Treasurer’s report
MOTION: George Butenkoff moved to accept the Treasurer’s report. This was seconded by Don Brown and carried unanimously.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony Committee-
Warren Wenz said that he has made arrangements for the purchase of sandwiches and soft drinks for the after parade refreshments. The after parade picnic will be held at the American Legion Hall instead of the Trolley Museum site this year.
A marching color guard representing the E.W.V.C. was determined to consist of four members: Ernie Teixeira, Jim Barton, Don Brown and Dave Malo.
Memorial Day Poster/Essay Contest Committee-
Those present judged the submitted posters and essays and first prize winners were selected in each category. The adult first prize, essay winner was also selected.
Scholarship Committee-
Mark Simmons reported that the E.W.H.S. awards night is scheduled for Thursday, June 8th, 2006. Mark said he will attend to represent our commission.

Veterans Cemetery Project-
Dan Burnham informed our commission that the E.W. Cemetery Commission accepted our proposed cemetery roadway plan with one minor roadway design correction. Those present reviewed the plan drawing and agreed by unanimous consent to go forward with the road design.
Ken Crouch reported that he had received a quote of $13,640.00 for the cost of paving our cemetery roadway. This quote is for paving material only. Ken said that he would obtain more quotes and look into having our Town Public Works Department
do some of the labor involved.
Veterans Day Road Race Committee-
Two revised “race day” T-Shirt designs were reviewed by those present and one of the designs was selected for our next road race.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Warren Wenz read an invitation received asking us to attend the Melrose Memorial Day remembrance ceremony to be held Sunday, May 28, 2006 at 2:30 PM at the Melrose School
Ken Crouch reminded all present that we will have an exhibit and sale of our “Beacon Lights” at the “East Windsor Community Day” on Saturday, May 13, 2006.
Warren Wenz said that he would look into a grant program for civic organizations sponsored by “Price Choppers” in Vernon and report back to the commission.

Due to a town wide vote next May 25, 2006, our regular scheduled meeting for this date has been CANCELLED

ADJOURNMENT
Hearing of no further business to come before the commission, Chairman Warren Wenz asked for a motion to adjourn. George Butenkoff moved to adjourn this meeting and a second was made by Ron Hwalek. The motion carried unanimously. The Chairman closed the meeting at 8:50 P.M.
